Sipping tea, being sick

I thought as I sipped my tea, I might as well write a little something :) (Ginger tea with honey and lemon for those wondering)

Well ... I'm sick!!! Not sick sick, just sick! Respiratory infection I believe (self diagnosed of course). It's respiratory care week, so I though why not!!!!! Speaking of respiratory care week ... have you hugged your respiratory therapist today????

I woke up early because my mouth and throat hurt ... so I just got up. I have blisters on the roof of my mouth and my throat just hurts. The blisters are new .... just got those yesterday, but the rest of my sypmtoms have been here a week! {ersonally I think they've outstayed there visit!!!

I think we're going to IKEA today to pick up a few things for the house ... it's drizzily out, so why not. We could do that ... come home and just chill for the rest of the day. I have a paint can to make for the little boy next door for trick or treat, so I could do that .... and yes of course unpack! Yesterday I made the cutest M&M paint can and filled it with the HUGE pag of M&M's from SAMS club for Mo's cutie Matthew! She's just going to love me giving him all those M&M's! But get it .... Matt and Mo or Mom ... M&M!!! Okay ... so I seem to be the only one to get it. He's dressing up as a lion (he's almost 2 I believe) and has been practicing his ROARRR!! The little one next door is a tiger ... we saw him as he left to go to the mall trick or treating! I think tomorrow he's just helping his mom hand out candy.

I called out sick for the first time Monday ... I always feel SO guilty doing that! But man was I sick!!!! I worked Sunday night for 4 hours (they called my Friday to see if I could cover) and I about died!!! I was miserable!! I thought I was just going to fall over!! I was in the ER and it was hopping!!! And of course I had a baby that was intubated and on a ventilator (what a little fighter he was ... I'm sure he's extubated and possibly home by now) that got shipped out to another hospital. So most of my time was spent in that room between giving treatments and doing blood gasses to the various people that would come and go .... I think more came than went!

But anyway .... if we're going to get to IKEA this morning I better get moving. Since it's Saturday we like to get there shortly after they open to beat the crowds. Oiy!

Back blogs ......

I haven't been on for awhile due to the move, so let me catch you up ..........

Let's see ....... we moved Saturday (October something) with the help of Shyam, Donnie, Rob, and Bryan. I pretty much did nothing except supervise, I'm good at that. Shyam spent the night Friday to help us finish packing which was very nice of him.
Sunday my parents came up and we finished getting the rest of the stuff moved, thanks to them. Not a good day for me because I was too overwhelmed and had panic attacks, etc. But everyone got it done.

The house is pretty much unpacked now ... except for my scrapbook room but that's another story. Too many boxes and too overwhelming!!! There's our kitchen things which will go in our hutch once I find one I like ... so that's still in boxes. Everything else is good to go.

Brenda suprised us with a kitchen table and chairs (I think I mentioned that earlier) so that's our only furniture for now! We have ordered a couch and chair, but until we get that in we don't have much. I kept my big oversized green comfy chair which is in the basement in my scrapbook room so I can chill in front of the fireplace in the winter! It will be nice once our furniture is in and we have actual places to sit.

We got a call from our social worker last Monday and we "lucked" into an apointment for our homestudy for the adoption. She could do it Friday at 2:30. We freaked, no furniture and the house is full of boxes. It got our butts in gear to unpack and get things looking nice. We explained how we JUST as in JUST moved and our furniture wouldn't be in for 3 weeks, but we had a kitchen table and chairs (thanks Brenda). She was very understanding. So Bart took off a half a day and we had our first homestudy. Funny, I wasn't nervous .... you'd think I'd be panic city, but I wasn't. She was very nice and gave us TONS to do. We went the next day (Saturday) to Baltimore to get our fingerprints taken (almost 200 bucks) because we heard that can take awhile. Also on Saturday we got our "big blue book". They weren't lieing when they called it big .... we have SO much to do it's not funny!!! But the adoption feels real now, and I don't think November 2005 will ever get here!

I've gotten some words of advice from our new neighbor who recently adopted a cute little boy from Russia. She's told me not to hesitate to knock on her door with questions, etc. that she was more than happy to do what she can. She's really nice.

Our other neighbor on the other side is very nice as well ... he works A LOT and is hardly every home, but nice nonetheless.

Socrates is adjusting to the townhouse well. He's having a ball with the empty space .... I'm not sure what he's going to do when our furniture comes in! But he's been great ... and the window's are just his height to look out of which is way too cute! (Yes I've gotten pictures)

I'm on my regular night shift schedule now (which is where I am now ... work). It's okay ... I have stories but I'll save those for another time.

Tomorrow (well today) I plan to spackle the few spots we messed up on the move and do touch up painting. I would also like to get the upstairs bathroom painted so I can get my cute frog border up .... but we'll see. I tried to get Bart to let Shyam have Friday off so he could help me paint and unpack my SB room but it was a no go (sorry Shyam). I told Bart that it would get him out of doing it and helping me pick out the paint etc, but still a no go. Shyam's like having a gay friend, which you just gotta love! :)

okay ... I better run, I have a big TWO treatments to do.

Tape guns are NOT our friends

I hate these things, they're SUPPOSE to make using packing tape easier!!! All I end up doing is getting it all bunched up on the box then getting my fingers taped up. I don't call that easier! I think this packing thing would go faster if someone else was doing it! :)

I hate the night shift

Today was my first day working evenings (3-11) which isn't a bad shift ... but I can't stand the night shift people!!!! They are so odd, and not team players at all. Really bad for me since after this week I am on night shift (that's what I was hired for)!!!! I'd really like to see if I could work days and evenings, three 8 hour shifts a week. It would be less money, but the people are SO much better during days!

I had an okay assignment ... nothing big. I did have a stat EKG which I haven't been trained on how to work the machine. I kind of just figured it out as I went along .... I got the EKG, but who knows if I did everything right so they have a copy of it for future records. Not my problem!

Bart worked at the townhouse tonight ... he got all the wiring he wanted to do for the computer network finished. I don't see how we'll be totally moved in this weekend ... I have SO much to pack it's not funny!!! I did pack up a lot of my inventory last night, but I still have my whole scrapbook room to pack!!! I have no idea where to start in here!! The kitchen needs packed as well ... maybe Bart will do that tomorrow night while I'm at work. I'm off Wed. so I plan to get a lot of packing done then. I work 3-11 on Thursday and I'm on call Friday. Hopefully I don't get called in!

I'm trying to finish the adoption papers so we can send those in tomorrow, but Bart's not helping. His computer went down and now he's having trouble's with it! Of course that comes first ... what was I thinking!!!

I think I'm getting old :(

My back is killing me .... I think it's a sign of age!!!!

I could comfort myself in saying it's from an injury and a car accident (which is true) but it seems to bother me more and more ... so I'm thinking it's more of an age thing!!!! UGH!!!! I'm not THAT old!!!!!!!

Sunday ...

Man was today busy!!! We got up relatively early for us on a Sunday (930 I believe). Went to Target then to the townhouse to put together everything we got yesterday. We worked there for a few hours before taking a break for lunch (Pizza Blitz). We also went to Home Depot to get some things and Bed Bath and Beyond so I could sit in the chair from heaven and get a free massage! :) After that it was back to the townhouse to work more. We were there pretty much all day!!!! We're both pretty exhausted, but we got a lot done. We got all 4 tables put together, 2 bookcases, and I'm not sure whatelse. I cleaned (scrubed and scrubed) the upstairs bathroom and it sparkles. I also touched up the paint in the powder room and put together a shelving unit to go in there.

I saw our neighbor again ... she's very nice. I met her yesterday and we had a short chat ... she has a little boy who is just adorable.

I work 3-11 tomorrow. It will be nice to sleep in!!

I packed up a lot of my paper, etc for the store and on the last box that I moved beside the door my back had it. Spasm!!!!!!! My back is a wreck!! Luckily it wasn't bad and it's just sore now! Hopefully work won't be too busy tomorrow and I can rest! :) It will be my first evening shift and I'm anxious to see how it goes.

Full filled Saturday

We got up early this morning (and let me tell you it wasn't easy) and made it to IKEA as they opened! LOVE that place! We walked around writing down our numbers and enjoyed looking around (although not as much as I would have liked to). We stopped for breakfast ... YUMMMMM!!!!!! Scrambled eggs and crapes ... Bart had the same with sausage. So yummy! Then we continued downstairs! I resisted some buys, and didn't resist others! :) Have some things we needed but didn't get because we needed to measure (which means we get to go back!). We pulled all our things (love that ... we always have fun with that part) and then checked out. After we paid we took are FULL shopping cart and FULL flat cart thingy and to the car we went. For whatever reason we always get weird looks ... they look at the car, then our carts, then back at the car ... like ya right!!! But Bart's car has a bottomless trunk!!!! Everything fit perfectly as always! After packing the car, we went back inside to grab some lunch ... I had vegetarian quiche and broccoli and man was it good!!!! Bart had Swedish meatballs and potatoes. We then came home ... exhausted! We pretty much went straight to bed for a much needed nap! Felt SO good too ... I didn't want to get up! I woke up at sometime and between Bart and I was Socs, head on pillow and all covered up. Bart would snore, then Socs would ... too bad they can't synchronize there snoring! After our nap we went to the townhouse and unloaded everything ... not too bad either .... I got it out of the trunk and handed it through the basement window to Bart (since it's all going down there). After getting everything unloaded we headed over to Bart's dad's because today was his birthday!
I got a little kimono note pad at Target to make his birthday card with. Each page had something ... I used my Stampin' Up! Kenji stamps which added to the Asian flair. At the end of the card it said ... from (next page) sticker of a boy and a dog (next page) Bart and Socrates (next page) sticker of a girl (next page) Abby .... and .... (next page) picture of a sleeping baby (next page) a baby girl .... (next page) to be born sometime in 2005 (next page) in China! (next page) Happy Birthday from our growing family.
I think it took awhile for it to sink in ... but he seemed happy and excited about it. At first I wasn't sure, but I think it just wasn't registering. I think it was a neat way to tell him though! While we were there he got a phone call from his niece and he told her the news ... so word is spreading!!! Now if November 2005 would just get here!!!!!!!

At IKEA I kept looking at the baby things ... I can't wait to go and start buying that stuff!!! Now that will be a fun IKEA trip (not that others aren't, but that moreso)

We went back to the townhouse to pick up some things I packed (like soap) that we've run out of and needed. While we were there we put together the step stool and started a drawer thingy. (It needed nailing so we didn't want to do it since it was late). So now we're home ... and ready for bed! LONG day, but we got a lot of things done! Tomorrow we plan to get up at a decent time and get a good bit done. Hopefully we will be able to follow through with that!

Nothing exciting ....

I worked 7-3 today ... nothing too exciting. I had the 4th floor and the Emergency Department. I saw a big 3 patients in the ED ... nothing too great, a couple treatments and a blood gas. Things have calmed down with the whole carting as I go thing since I'm not being followed which is good. The female supervisor does look over my print out at the end of shift to see if I've done everything right. I found out she's doing that because the male supervisor didn't orient me at all!!! Well duh!!!! She gave me a pat on the back (literally) and said that I'm doing really well and I am good at finding my charting problems and fixing them. (My print outs were perfect)

I take back all the mean things I said about her ... she's actually pretty nice and means well!

Happy Halloween

Despite the fact I have a nasty cold, etc. we had a very nice Halloween. Beautiful day ... we went to the apple orchard and got some pumpkins and gords to decorate with. We decided we wouldn't get a big pumpkin to carve since it was Halloween .... so we got smaller ones to keep out until Thanksgiving. We bought some apples (go figure), apple dumplings, and some other odds and ends. Always a fun trip to the apple orchard.

Kaylie and Nick came over to hand out candy which was fun .... Of course Kaylie spent the time inside on the phone and computer. Nick had fun giving handfulls of candy away. We didn't get as many trick or treaters as I thought we would, but we got a good many. Some really cute ones! Then there were the older ones that were just too old, but what can you do?

Mo brought Matt over which was fun. He was SO cute ... he was a lion and adorable as ever!!! I gave him his paint can I decorated that was full with a huge bag of M&M's from SAMS and he loved it. Socrates loved him, and Matt gave him a big hug which was the cutest.

The little boy next door handed out candy, and I went over and gave him the paint can I decorated for him (Tigger) which was full of toys. He had fun playing with the lid ... and then dropping the bubbles over the step and watching it roll away. I was the sucker that kept getting it for him and he'd just laugh!!! Love hearing kids laugh! Then I felt bad because I went back over to my steps and his mom had to chase the bubble container.

Our Halloween was full of treats .... no tricks this year! :)
